{"id":2816,"date":"2020-06-24T12:28:32","date_gmt":"2020-06-24T12:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bildwpaquabokalocal.local\/?p=2816\/"},"modified":"2020-06-24T12:28:32","modified_gmt":"2020-06-24T12:28:32","slug":"how-john-dory-protects-adriatic-fishes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aquariumboka.ucg.ac.me\/en\/how-john-dory-protects-adriatic-fishes\/","title":{"rendered":"How John Dory protects Adriatic fishes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Institute of Marine Biology of the University of Montenegro (IMB) has published a study \u201cRare and Endangered Fish Species in The Adriatic Sea and Proposal for Marine Flagship Species\u201d which has proposed John Dory (<em>Zeus faber<\/em>) as a \u201cflagship species\u201d for the recently established Aquarium Boka.<\/p>\n<p>The study presents an updated list of Adriatic fish species. Of more than 400 recorded species, 120 have high commercial and economic importance and are target species in fisheries. As the study presented, Adriatic fishes are facing numerous pressures, with 15 marked as critically endangered.<\/p>\n<p>On the importance of flagship species in marine biodiversity conservation, the lead author of the study, Dr. Ana Pe\u0161i\u0107, research associate at the IMB, said \u201cin the last decades, the concept of \u201cumbrella species\u201d or \u201cflagship species\u201d aims to promote public awareness and to raise funds for conservation with the end purpose of protecting biodiversity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This study and publication were carried out under the project \u201cMarine Biodiversity Conservation Center \u201cBoka Aquarium\u201d (MonteAqua)\u201d, implemented by the Institute of Marine Biology of the University of Montenegro in cooperation with the Center for Fisheries and Biodiversity Conservation of Inland Waters, Institute of Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Science, University of Kragujevac.<\/p>\n<p>The study is available for free download at the following <a href=\"http:\/\/aquariumboka.ucg.ac.me\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Rare-species-study-20200620.pdf\">LINK<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Institute of Marine Biology of the University of Montenegro (IMB) has published a study \u201cRare and Endangered Fish Species in The Adriatic Sea and Proposal for Marine Flagship Species\u201d which has proposed John Dory (Zeus faber) as a \u201cflagship species\u201d for the recently established Aquarium Boka.
