Benthic species, leaves above sandy and sandy-muddy substrate. Leaves to depth of 300 m, common 0-100 m. Grows till 40 cm (0.5 kg), common 25-30 cm. It\u00a0is mostly and notoriously known for its venomous spines that can inflict serious injuries on humans through accidental stinging. Because of these spines and its potent venom it is classified as one of the most venomous fishes in the Mediterranean. The glands producing\u00a0venom are located in the derma of the fish. Spend most of the day buried in the sand, waiting for prey. Feeds with small invertebrates and fish.
