It can\u00a0reach\u00a045 cm in length, usually 17-34 cm. The body is oval, laterally flattened, the eyes are small and set on the right side. It is a uniform colour and lighter shades of yellowish brown and reddish brown with small darker spots. It feeds on bottom-dwelling invertebrates: shrimps (amphipods, mizids, skins and other decapods),\u00a0bivalves and polychaetes. It is\u00a0cought with nets.
