It\u00a0is a venomous scorpionfish, common in marine subtropical\u00a0waters. It is a\u00a0benthic\u00a0species and is usually found resting among seaweed and on rocks, and is usually solitary. It\u00a0has a maximum length of about 37\u00a0cm (15\u00a0in) but a more normal adult length is around 15\u00a0cm (6\u00a0in).\u00a0The colour of this fish is generally brownish and there is a dark pigmented spot between the eighth and ninth dorsal spines.
