It belongs to the\u00a0family\u00a0Syngnathidae, the same as seahorses.\u00a0The average size is about 15 to 20\u00a0cm (6 to 8\u00a0in) with a maximum of 35\u00a0cm (10\u00a0in).\u00a0This species is notable for its &#8220;broad&#8221; snout, which is as deep as its body.\u00a0The body surface is covered by small bony plates. The general colour is greenish, often with various darker mottling, and the belly is yellow. It feeds on\u00a0plankton\u00a0such as copepods\u00a0which it sucks in through its mouth.
