Organisms which are not strong enough to swim against ocean currents.
Scientists classify plankton in several ways, including by size, type, and how long they spend drifting. But the most basic categories divide plankton into two groups: phytoplankton (plants) and zooplankton (animals)
Phytoplankton
They make 50% of the oxygen on the earth.
Found in the upper sunlight layer of water body
Phytoplankton can cause disturbance in the ecosystem due to overpopulation, which may include toxic species.
Zooplankton
Zooplankton consists of temporary members such as larvae of fish and crabs which live as zooplankton only during the larval stage, and various species of protozoa, mollusks, echinoderm, arthropods…which spend their entire life as free-floating organisms.
Diet of zooplankton is based on the algae and bacteria (phytoplankton) and other zooplankton animals.
