European sea bass (Lat. Dicentrarchus labrax). Coastal species that is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and salinities and frequent coastal inshore waters, estuaries and brackish water lagoons. Common in brackish water, to a depth of 20 m. It grows to 1 m and 14 kg, often 20-55 cm. Individual is silvery grey in colour and sometimes a dark-bluish colour on the back. Feeds on fish, crustaceans and molluscs. Catches with longlines, spear guns, trammel nets and fishing rods. Is an important marine species both to commercial inshore fisheries and aquaculture.
