Saddled bream (Lat. Oblada melanura). The name of the species comes from the Greek “melas” = black and “ura” = tail, that is, “black tail”. The colouration is silvery, with slightly bluish back in order to merge with the colour of the sea and not to attract the attention of the birds of prey when it swims in surface looking for food. Coastal species with school behaviour, leaves above rocky substrate, usually with vegetation and in meadows of Posidonia sp. Grows till 30 cm (0,6 kg), common 15-20 cm. Feeds with small invertebrates and algae. Catches by trawls, trammel nets, fish-traps, and handlines.
