Sand sole (Lat. Pegusa lascaris). Demersal, sedentary species that lives on sandy and muddy bottoms, 5-350 m of depht (usually 20-50 m). It can reach 45 cm in length, usually 17-34 cm. The body is oval, laterally flattened, the eyes are small and set on the right side. It is a uniform colour and lighter shades of yellowish brown and reddish brown with small darker spots. It feeds on bottom-dwelling invertebrates: shrimps (amphipods, mizids, skins and other decapods), bivalves and polychaetes. It is cought with nets. It has a certain commercial importance.
