Kotor, 27 September 2019 – Aquarium Dubrovnik and Boka management reaffirmed today their commitment to strengthen cooperation and collaboration between the Institute for Marine and Coastal Research of the University of Dubrovnik, Croatia (IMCR) and the Institute of Marine Biology of the University of Montenegro (IMB) at the meeting held at IMB in Kotor today.

The meeting reviewed the development of the Cooperation Agreement between two institutions, which will create an overall collaboration framework, expected to be signed by end-October 2019. Agreement will indicate main cooperation areas, including (a) Research, protection and promotion of the Adriatic Sea biodiversity, (b) Knowledge sharing in aquarium practices, (c) Exchange of aquarium biological material (organisms), (d) Joint development and implementation of projects, and (e) Theoretical and Applied Marine Biology.

Dr. Mirko Đurović, IMB Director commented that “IMCR is an indispensable partner in the current development of the IMB, and in particular in setting up Marine Biodiversity Conservation Center Aquarium Boka”.

Dr. Nenad Antolović, IMCR Director added that “management of the Aquarium Dubrovnik will support start-up activities of Aquarium Boka in mid-2020”.

The meeting was held within the framework of the MonteAqua project. Throughout the discussions, participants highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing between two institutions and joint project development and implementation.
